The Winchester Cooperative Theatre for Children
P.O. Box 190
Winchester, MA 01890
Director: Cathy Alexander, 729-0224
The Winchester Cooperative Theatre
for Children was founded in 1979 to
provide elementary school children
with the opportunity to participate in a
comprehensive theatrical experience.
In 1990 the program expanded to
include a middle school production.
We believe that children deserve
professionalism in their exposure to
theatre. Our staff consists of
accomplished dramatic coaches,
musicians, choreographers, stage,
costume and lighting designers who
support the children as they develop to
their fullest potential.
Throughout their experience, the
children are encouraged to reach a
level of performance far beyond that
which is typically expected of their age
group. We are dedicated to helping
children feel good about themselves,
gain poise, and reach their own personal level of excellence.
The Winchester Cooperative Theatre is a
non-profit organization which is
financially supported by tuitions, ticket
revenues and donations to the:
Friends of the Cooperative Theatre.

Senior Cooperative Theatre
This program offers Winchester middle
school children the unique opportunity to
take part in the staging and production of a
full length Broadway musical. The
material is demanding and requires a high
level of commitment and mutual
cooperation. Auditions for the November
production are held early in September.
Children's Cooperative Theatre
This spring production has become a
tradition in Winchester. Highly
competitive auditions for children in
grades four through six are held in
December and require an aptitude in
drama, music and dance. Those accepted
participate in a rigorous rehearsal process,
culminating in a professionally staged,
double cast, musical adaptation presented
at the end of March.

Cooperative Summer
Drama Camp
The summer session welcomes all interested children from Winchester and the
surrounding communities to experience
the excitement of theatre in a non-threatening and relaxed atmosphere. The five
week non-audition program provides
instruction in a broad spectrum of theatre
education through participation in skits,
monologues, improvisation, music and
dance. A complete musical production in
the spirit of the spring show is the grand
finale to Summer Camp.

Drama Classes
Throughout the year, classes are offered in
various aspects of the theatre. Character
development, timing and voice projection
are emphasized and individual attention is
given to each young actor.
